Bar Moskus
Bar Moskus er en intim kontinentalbar på Olav Tryggvasons gate med en liten scene for kvalitetskonserter, et bredt utvalg craft-øl og gjennomarbeidede cocktails.
History
Bar Moskus opened on September 1, 2012, founded by Magnus Lykkelig and concert booker Tor Schjølberg. Both came from Credo, where they had developed a concept combining food, drinks, and concerts. The vision was to create a continental bar — 'the kind of bar you're glad to find when visiting a new city.' The stage was built before the bar, a deliberate choice reflecting the venue's identity: music and drinks are equally important. That same year, Moskus won Adresseavisen's 'Nightlife Newcomer' award in Trondheim.
People
Magnus Lykkelig is the owner and daily operator of Bar Moskus. He left his position at the Credo bar to create his own bar universe. Tor Schjølberg has been the concert booker since opening and books all concerts — a role he also held at Credo. Together they built the venue around the idea that stage and bar are equally important. Moskus is run by a small team including bar managers Jan Tore and Erik, all described as 'passionate enthusiasts.' Magnus summed up the philosophy: 'We built the stage before we built the bar.'
Atmosphere
Moskus is a compact venue with space for around 70 seated and standing guests. The stage is barely elevated above floor level, creating a unique closeness between audience and performers. The walls are covered with a curated vinyl collection that also serves as an interior element. The bar has additionally built a control room beneath the stage with an analog mixing desk for live recordings. The venue shares its building with Teateret Avant Garden, and the landlord is described as an important supporter of Moskus' development.
Culture
Bar Moskus has evolved into one of Norway's most important intimate venues, hosting 60–65 concerts annually. The main focus is country and americana, but all genres are welcome as long as quality is high. Artists performing at Moskus have typically released multiple albums — the venue does not function as a debut stage. The bar has also built a control room with an analog mixing desk connected to the stage, inspired by the 'mobile studios' of the 1960s and 70s. The Moskus Sessions concept records concerts live in studio quality, mixed in real-time with no post-editing, and releases the recordings digitally shortly after the concert.

Moskus is a drinking bar without food service, but with a carefully curated beverage selection. The bar has eleven beer taps with permanent offerings including Pilsner Urquell, Dahls, and Guinness, plus around 100 different bottled beers emphasizing Belgian classics. The wine list is carefully composed, and bartenders make classic cocktails — but you will find neither mojitos, candy shots, nor energy drinks. The spirits selection is broad and curated. During the 2017 anniversary week, concerts were paired with themed drink experiences.
Bar Moskus is located at Olav Tryggvasons gate 5, right next to Teateret Avant Garden in Trondheim's city center (Midtbyen). Olav Tryggvasons gate is the northernmost of the five east-west cross streets from Cicignon's city plan after the 1681 fire — originally called Strandgaten because it lay closest to the fjord. The street received its current name in 1897, marking the 900th anniversary of Olav Tryggvason's founding of the city. Moskus sits in the eastern part of the street, at the heart of Trondheim's nightlife and cultural scene.
Trondheim's most popular cocktail bar, known for creative drinks with Nordic ingredients like birch sap, lingonberries and herbs.
Packed almost every evening — especially Thursday to Saturday. No reservations, but the line moves relatively quickly.
